Parish Ministry Opportunities

 

 

Below is a list of parish ministries in which you can become involved.  We urge you to talk directly to the contact persons either for more information or to volunteer your time and talent. 

 

 

 

Acolytes: People age 10 and up, who assist at worship services on Sundays and on Holy Days. They lead the procession, carrying the cross at the beginning and end the service, and at the Gospel reading.  They also assist with the Offertory.  Jim Moorhead

 

 

 

Altar Guild: Women and  men who prepare the church for worship.  They maintain the beauty of the liturgical objects used on and around the altar . They set up the communion vessels etc. and organize the sanctuary for each service.  Their goal is to have everything in it's place, and to promote the dignity and beauty of our worship. The Banner Newsletter:  The monthly publication that keeps everyone notified about the parish activities and plans. Grace Houston

 

 

 

Choir: The choir rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:30am.  Jim Reifinger

 

 

 

Christian Education:  This is a comprehensive study program involving youth and adults, covering Sunday School classes, Bible studies, Education for Ministry, Lenten Studies and Vacation Bible School.  Laura Flynn

 

 

 

Coffee & Doughnuts Ministry:  Members sign up for a Sunday to make the coffee and bring doughnuts for the Coffee Hour.  Jim Moorhead

 

 

 

Communications Committee:  Plans and carries out projects related to communicating with the public, as well as with the Saint Alban’s family.  Pat Ridgway & Sue Nicholson

 

 

 

 Cursillo/Ultreya:  The Cursillo movement is a method of church renewal that begins with a weekend retreat.  The purpose is to help Christians renew their Christian commitment and to understand their roles as leaders in all of life.  The monthly meeting is called an Ultreya.  Mary Beth Weaks

 

 

 

Daughters of the King: The Daughters of the King is a national order of women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church who undertake a life committed to the “rule of prayer and a rule of service.”  They are dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and to the strengthening of the spiritual life of their parish.

Flower Guild:  Members of the parish sign up to provide altar flowers in memory of loved ones, or thanksgivings, and the Flower Guild members bring the flowers from the florist and arrange them for Sunday and Holy Day services.  Dottie Johnson

 

 

 

Kairos: A ministry of the Episcopal Church to prison inmates and their families. 
George Weaks.

 

 

 

Eucharistic Ministers: Licensed by the Bishop, these people assist in liturgical leadership.  They lead the Prayers of the People, read lessons, bear the chalice at communion  Fr. Walker

 

 

 

Worship Leaders:  Formerly referred to as "lay readers", these men and women read lessons from God's Word in our Sunday and Wednesday worship services. Their responsibilities also include officiating at the Daily Office as needed..  Fr. Walker

 

 

 

Eucharistic Visitors: Also licensed by the Bishop, these ministers bring the Holy Communion to sick and shut-ins as needed. They provide a special connection between the active life of the congregation and the shut-in person.

Oblation Bearers:  Individuals or couples who take turns bringing forward the bread and wine at the Offertory.  Pat Ridgway

 

 

 

Parish Life Committee:  Plans and organizes our resources for parish gatherings and recreational opportunities.  Sharon York

 

 

 

Refuge of Hope: A ministry feeding the hungry on a daily basis.  Our teams take turn with other churches to provide this service.  Charles Smith

 

 

 

Stewardship Committee:  This committee works on the stewardship campaign each fall, putting together the stewardship packets and monitoring the pledges received.

Ushers: Men and women who assist by welcoming people, handing out bulletins, ushering people to communion, taking up the offering at the  regular Sunday worship services and at Holy Day liturgies.  Jim Moorhead

 

 

 

Vacation Bible School: Members begin working in the Spring to plan for Vacation Bible School in August.  Many volunteers from the parish provide support and staff for the event.  Bitsy Beene

 

 

Newcomers Committee:  (in process of formation)

 

 

 

Vestry: Made up of the rector, and nine members of the parish, elected at the Annual Parish Meeting in January, to oversee the temporal affairs of the parish. Fr. Walker

 

 

 

Youth Ministry: Plans and organizes recreational and educational events for teens in the parish. Mark Snellgrove

 

 

 

 Library Committee: (in process of formation)

 

 

 

 Prayer Shawl Ministry: This ministry is involved in knitting or crocheting shawls/lap robes which are then blessed by the parish priest during church and then given to those people within the parish who have been or are ill.  Dottie Johnson
